| Effective Grading: a Tool for Learning and Assessment Barbara E.Walvoord and Virginia Johnson Anderson (Jossey-Bass, 1998) LB 2368 .W35 1998 |
Excellent resource that considers grading and assessment as an integral part of the learning process. Extensive discussion of establishing grading criteria, including rubrics (Primary Trait Analysis scales). A chapter on various methods of weighting course grades, with a discussion of the implications of each method. Other good chapters: “Making Assignments Worth Grading,” “Fostering Motivation and Learning in the Grading Process,” “Making Grading more Time-Efficient.” Ends with a discussion of how grading in individual courses can be linked to broader institutional assessment efforts. Contains a wealth of useful examples. Highly recommended as a reference in the course design process, or for anyone looking for a new approach to grading. |
